What Visitors Say
The Cleveland Hungarian Heritage Museum is a true hidden gem inside the Galleria building on the main floor. It’s within walking distance from many hotels in the downtown area. They have really done a fantastic job of taking you through the history of Hungary including the vast number of beautiful castles, skilled porcelain factories, the culture of the people. Also pre-WWI and the break offs from Hungary that created Yugoslavia, Slovakia, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Austria in 1920. They have many artifacts including an Hungarian library. Videos, music and architecture are all covered as well. The gift shop has numerous items all from Hungary or crafts made from local Hungarians. Mary Jane & Bev were delightful to meet and are very well versed in Hungarian History. I’m so glad I visited and have Hungary on my trip list now. So much rich culture that makes you want to see it on foot!
a year agoWonderful museum. Is free and located inside the erieview mall. Only open Wednesday to Friday from 11am-3pm has a small gift shop in front of museum with everything handmade from local Hungarians. Great place to spend an hour and learn about a culture and their traditions.
3 years agoVery nice museum with tons of detail about Hungary’s traditions, traditional clothing, and how so many people from Hungary came to Cleveland. There’s also a lot about the history and all about different parts of the country. Could spend anywhere from 30 min - 1 hour here. The workers were super kind and gave me a nice run down of the place.
a year agoI had a great visit, the folks taking care of the museum were wonderful, knowledgeable, and happy to indulge my rambling. The clothing was absolutely breathtaking. Hungarian history and culture is a nice blend of eastern European and nomadic tradition and its definitely reflected in their artwork and clothing. I popped into the library briefly and there is a genuinely impressive collection of Hungarian books and newspapers, both modern and historic. The gift shop also had a good selection of products to take home, though one thing I was hoping for was a magnet with the Museum's name and logo on it, but they don't have anything like that, which is totally fine! Anyway, its a charming little museum, absolutely worth dropping by it and I implore anyone who visits to support them however you can.
10 months agoThis museum is located inside the mall. It is across from the YMCA. The volunteers were very welcoming. They were speaking Hungarian when we walked in. It is free. There is a donation box past the gift shop area next to the sign in book. There is also a small reference library in the back.
